The S13 is the lightest 13-liter diesel engine available in North America. It can operate at low RPMs with high torque which equates to less fuel consumption while still delivering up to 515 horsepower and 1,850 lb-ft of torque.

The engine and transmission of the S13 Integrated Powertrain were developed together, ensuring they operate in perfect harmony. The result is the fully automated 14-speed T14 transmission, which includes overdrive. It delivers seamless shifts without requiring any driver input to ensure the right gear at the right time.

T14 Transmission

The all-new T14 transmission was engineered from the ground up as a fully automated manual transmission. This 14-speed overdrive transmission is optimized to deliver maximum fuel economy in direct drive (13th gear) under typical load conditions.

The transmission features an electronically controlled clutch actuator that works in perfect sync with the engine, delivering faster and smoother shifts. Unlike systems that consume air during complex maneuvers, such as backing a trailer into a tight loading dock, the T14 allows the driver to keep moving without needing to pause for air recharge. Additionally, the T14 is equipped with an integrated oil-to-water coolant system, optimizing temperature regulation in both hot and cold conditions. This advanced feature is one of the key factors that enables the T14 to achieve a Gross Combination Weight Rating (GCW) of up to 240,000 pounds.

Streamlined, Easy-to-Service Design Ensuring Maximum Uptime

When designing the International® S13 Integrated Powertrain, the engineers understood that it needed to demonstrate ironclad reliability right from the start. They recognized that businesses are cautious about investing in a new and untested product. As a result, the powertrain underwent twice the typical dyno testing, covered over a million additional miles during testing, and faced more rigorous scrutiny than most engines developed before it. Additionally, the European version of the powertrain has already been on the road, accumulating real-world kilometers with an outstanding reliability record.

100% of exhaust flow passes through the turbo, enabling the use of a simpler, more reliable fixed vane turbocharger.

Dual Stage Aftertreatment System injects the first dose of DEF just downstream of the turbo in the evaporator tube and the second dose inside the aftertreatment container.

Reduced soot and particulate matter lead to extended service intervals and eliminate the need for active regens.
